THE CENTRE FOR EUROPEAN STUDIES AND AFFAIRS - THE INTERNAL MARKET AND COMPETITION

The Centre for European Studies and Affairs – Internal Market and Competition of the Institute for World Economy was established in 15 June 2000 under the Phare Project „Training in European Affairs”, coordinated by the European Institute of Romania.  

The strategic objective of the Centre is to contribute, through research and information activity, to Romania’s accession and integration in the European Union.

The specific objectives of the Centre are:

  • to analyse and to inform about the European Union’s policies, especially in the Internal Market and Competition areas;

  • to elaborate studies and to provide useful information for the preparation of specialists and economic entities, in order for them to adapt to the integration process requirements and to get a better approach on the competition in the internal market of the EU and to respond more efficiently to global economy’s challenges.

  • to offer central authorities competent and independent analyses of European Affairs issues, particularly with respect to EU Internal Market and Competition policy.

  • CESA-IMC has been declared, by the European Comission Delegation in Romania,   multiplier of european information

  • The Centre is co-founder of the Romanian Association for European Intergation Studies (ARSIE)

  • The Centre is co-founder of the European Studies Centres Network in Romania

  • The Centre is co-founder of the South-East European Network of the European Centres

Main activities of  CESA-IMC

Activities at CESA-IMC represent a combination of research, information activity and consultancy.

·         Research

            Researchers at The Centre for European Studies and Affairs - Internal Market and Competition, with the participation of the researchers from both the Centre and the the IWE (and whenever possible, of other researchers from the Institute for Juridical Research and the National Institute for Economic Research of Romanian Academy and of the experts from the Competition Council) give more priority to specific projects in the working areas of the Centre. Also, the Centre is involved, within interdisciplinary working groups, in other research themes or programmes related to the impact of Romania’s integration into EU, cost-benefit analyses in particular.

            The Centre for European Studies and Affairs - Internal Market and Competition, as a member of the Network of European Studies Centres in Romania, has the possibility of participating in various international research projects, in order to provide European Studies of Excellence and support information and training activities.

  5. Estimation and Evaluation of Economic Disparities from the EU Accession Perspective (2003);

  7. The Economy of the New Member States Within the EU-25: First Year Review (2005).

·         Information

CESA-IMC has its own Documentation Centre with a new media laboratory and a specialized library (endowed with the support provided under the Phare project), playing an important role in the research and information activities related to domains of interest for Romania’s integration in the EU.

            The information products are addressed to businessmen and professionals (and particularly to their associations), leaders of opinion, the different levels of public administration, other public and private institutions.

The most important publications of the centre are:

·         EUROLEX – quarterly revue since 2001, dealing with EU legislation within the EU, (both in force and in preparation), in the field of internal market and competition, but also case - law studies, relevant to the inforcement of the communitary aquis in the competition area.

·         EUROINFO –  monthly revue since 2001; articles reffer to community institutions, EU enlargement, member states’ economy, external relations, EU common policies, as well as general commentaries and statistical data.

·         Consultancy

CESA-IMC provides papers for different beneficiaries, like employers’ associations or big companies, on various subjects (data upon which an association might lobby the EU/national/local Administration, comparative analyses of the regulations of particular sectors in different countries).
